Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is a research based treatment technique that effectively locates and treats soft tissue dysfunction. IASTM utilizes ergonomically designed instruments in conjunction with the skilled clinicians knowledge of body anatomy and soft tissue structure. Utilizing the instruments, allows the clinician to locate restrictions and treat the affected area with appropriate pressure. The treatment introduces controlled micro-trauma to the area being treated, which causes stimulation of a local inflammatory response. This facilitates healing activities, including soft tissue remodeling, blood flow and reduced scar tissue. Clinically, IASTM improves range of motion, strength and reduces pain.

IASTM is indicated for conditions including: restricted range of motion, painful motions, impaired muscle recruitment, neck and back pain, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, heel pain, post-surgical scars, chronic pain, muscle strains, chronic bursitis, IT band syndrome, and many other forms of musculoskeletal dysfunction.

So, if you find that you are having restricted range of motion, limited flexibility or chronic pain, you may benefit from IASTM intervention. Whether your condition is neurologic or orthopedic, acute or chronic, IASTM can be effective and restoring soft tissue dysfunction and improving pain symptoms.
